Sacraments
St. Joseph’s is a Byzantine (or Eastern) Rite Ukrainian Catholic Church. This means it follows the spiritual and liturgical tradition of the Christian East, specifically the Church of Kyiv. Although founded in 988 the Ukrainian Church is an offspring of the Greek Church (based in Constantinople), whose roots reach back to the Early Church. Consequently the Ukrainian Church enjoys the beautiful liturgical and spiritual tradition of the Eastern Churches.
As a Catholic Church with an Orthodox tradition, St. Joseph’s participates in the Christian journey through the celebration of the seven Sacraments. The implementation of the sacraments differs somewhat from the Roman Catholic tradition.
Parish members of all ages are invited and encouraged to participate in the sacramental life of the parish. In fact, sacramental participation is an essential component of authentic Christian living.
